Civil War Star

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

This scrappy star block is made up of Civil War Reproduction fabrics. I love the little architectural print in the lower right corner. All of these Half-square triangles were made so much easier with a computer program called Triangulations. Even a beginner can successfully sew this block with the help of this very simple tool!

The shop has some new Civil War prints in. I’ll give you a peek next time. And mark your calendars! The 2010 East Tennessee Shop Hop is June 17-26. Details coming soon!

Snow

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Just look at the snow falling! I love the way the camera catches it falling. This is the new birdhouse in Susan’s yard. It will be fun to see if any birds take a peek inside this spring.

Winter

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

This is a fun little project Susan taught her oldest daughter how to make when she was looking for a quick gift idea for her girlfriends. It comes together quickly and it’s fun to choose different fabrics for the scarves.

I thought I’d share a recipe for a fruit salad that’s great in the winter when we don’t have the nice variety of fruit that we do in the summer. Susan’s mother, Margaret, always made this for Sunday dinner.

Five Cup Salad

1 cup mandarin oranges (drain and cut)
1 cup crushed pineapple (drain)
1 cup miniature marshmallows
1 cup sour cream or cool whip
1 cup coconut

Combine and refrigerate overnight when possible.

Go Team!

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Susan is having a very difficult time trying to decide who to root for during tomorrow’s basketball game. The University of Tennessee is hosting the University of Kansas and as you can see from the picture, both granddaughters wear rival team colors! What’s a grandmother to do but cheer for both!
